Katharine: Superbowl advertisements tug at our heartstrings (of course - they're selling beer and cars)

As a service to all members (!), here's a synthesis of this year's Superbowl advertisements, with
insightful comment from a journalist with Slate.

Since the majority of us are not resident in the US,  Superbowl ads are a proxy for cultural change.
Even the ubiquitous car advertisements (how many can there have been?) obviously targeted at the
male audience for the Superbowl (although in our experience, most of the women we knew also sat through the Superbowl in all its hourslong tedium;  I didn't, it was the one day I enjoyed going shopping to Nordstrom in Corte Madera, which was empty).

One car ad that is not included in this piece (and it's long - it takes a while to plough through it) features a James Bond spoof ad, for Kia, which can be found on Youtube:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rSqqCI0LNHs.    Fun to watch.

But Budweiser tugged at viewers' heartstrings with their Clydesdale horses, their adorable golden lab puppy, and the big bad wolf.  The winner.  No one can top that.  If you watch any of the clips - watch that one.
