We took a gentle meander through the Bois de Clapier on Thursday, February 27th. It is a large undeveloped area that most of us did not realize goes all the way to Prades and to Jacou. The internet describes it as a pleasant circuit shaded by Alep pines all along the way. The website also suggests verifying position at each crossroads, and bringing a paper map in case the GPS decides to be unreliable. Fortunately we had Marrianick to guide us.
Rosie pointed out the nests of
processionary caterpillars, and told what havoc they wreaked in the region a few
years ago. From all the nests we saw, it looks like the caterpillars may
be back in the area.
Mariannick calculated the km walked so
FAWCO Clubs in Motion can tally them. 5.1 km walked by 5 members (and one
friend, but her km don't count) will add 25.5 for AWG-LR. If we had not
been rained out, we might have walked more. One of our members
contacted Mariannick before the walk to take a "rain check." Maybe she
knew something we didn't. Hope to see more members on the next
hike.
