Katharine: the launch of Season, AWG's new cookbook

(Photo credits:  PegFat, Lydia A, Maggie)

Season, AWG's latest cookbook,  was given a grand welcome at Peggy R's home over lunch.

Thank you to everyone who came, thank you so very much to the President and Board of AWG who voted 100% funding to Season, and thank you to everyone who purchased Season.

We had a print run of 200 copies, and sold over 130 of them at the lunch, raising in excess of 1750.

Sylvia speaks about Restos Bébés du Cœur.
Your generosity will benefit our chosen charities: we thought it appropriate that our donations will help provide needed sustenance/food in peoples' lives.    Jeevika (helping women transcend poverty in rural India, as well as giving them control over their lives);  FAWCO Foundation:  specific charities that will be supported will be announced at a later date;  and our beloved local charity Resto Bébés, for whom we donate supplies, particularly of much-needed baby bottles.  As well, of course, as the tireless and regular work of Kim, Maquita and Sylvia at the charity.

Robyn was the MC for the event, and introduced the various players involved in Season, including the editing team and Orla, who managed the design and layout of the book.

Bloody Marys - whose recipe is in Season - were served on the terrace for the speeches (iced tea too)

Peggy had asked those people coming to the lunch, and who had contributed recipes for Season, to bring their cooked dish to share, and everyone responded magnificently.  Peggy tagged all the cooked dishes with the name of the recipe and where it can be found in the book.  Amongst the many dishes that members brought were:  Tandoori roasted salmon (Orla);  Prawns with spicy lentils (Robyn);  Zucchini Terrine (Kim);  Artichoke dip (Rachel)..........

Curried zucchini soup (Peggy R);  Coconut curry fish (PegF);  Fancy figs and perky prunes (Maggie);  Cold rice with eggplant, mint and capers (Dalene);  Mediterranean orzo (Mary Cat);  Chicken tagine (Orla);  quinoa salad (Denise);  Oricietti and sausage pasta (Sue Rou);  and Swiss Chard Tart (Mariannick).

For desserts, we had walnut tart (Anne);  Filbert toasts (Sue Rey);  Lemon yoghurt cake (Kim);  Yummy chocolate cake (Katharine J);  orange and verbena salad, sweetened with lemon verbena syrup (Peggy).  All these recipes are to be found in Season.

Peggy's table decorations matched the photos in Season - artichokes, aubergines, cabbages, plus Spring foliage

Thank you to AWG for providing the wines for the lunch, and to everyone who made this such a
spectacularly successful launch party - and successful for Season too.  Our donations to the chosen charities will make a difference in womens' lives.
