Three teams - Hearts, Diamonds and Clubs - competed in the Book Quiz at MLK; Phil C was the Quizmaster, and took the quiz through at rapid pace. Questions ranged over classics of fiction before 1900 (e.g.:
A: Pamela, or Virtue Rewarded), to Theatre and Poetry (e.g.:
A: Leaves of Grass), to Non-fiction: (e.g.,
A: The Inca and Aztec civilisations. The adventurers were the Conquistadors - well done, Diamonds!) to cooks and cookbooks (in honor of AWG's new book: Season). Teams were on a timer of 30 seconds to give their answer.

Maggie writes:
Our team had a wonderful time at the quiz last
night, and we kept true to form in coming in last. As usual, we knew the
answers to the other teams' questions. At least we are not kicking
ourselves about any we got wrong. Some of the questions were real corkers,
and you may quote me on Scriveners. One Diamond e-mailed me that our
team's ambience and singing proved that we were a great team, no mind
the score.
Editor: Yes, there was singing. The quizmaster wished to deduct points for that but the scorer (Katharine C) disallowed that request. Keep on singing, AWG!

Denise led the Hearts team, aided by Martine and Christine, aided by a cheering section led by a rambunctious Dalene. One of the questions was on Stoner - which Book Group read last year.

Francoise and Anne-Marie organised the bar and snacks, enjoyed by everyone both before and after the quiz. Many thanks to Jan and Alice C and Tony F for staffing the bar, and for the others - Jessica, Mariannick, Katharine P - who staffed the door and the information table.
