Sitting on the beach in September is one of life's extraordinary pleasures - made the more so in
the knowledge that summer is fading fast.

Last days of summer |
Despite Spain's Costa Brava having been overbuilt in the 1960's with a gruesome disregard for beauty of any kind, there are unspoilt areas to be discovered, to our great delight.

Sunrise over Calella |
Such beauty is only 3 hours away by car, down the A-9 to Girona (don't even think about
going in July/August). May/June are enchanting also.

El Golfet beach, Calella |
A thunderstorm in the middle of the week produced strong waves for body-surfing (unusual for
the normally calm Mediterranean).

Almost Hawaii - along with riptides |
Thunderstorms in the Languedoc also caused a power outage at home. So along with laundry, there's been the task of throwing out food.
That's the price of a vacation, I suppose.
