CSF-Languedoc Walk for Life 2015 – a great day in so many ways...
The fifth CSF-Languedoc Walk for Life, held on the 4th October 2015 was an incredibly productive and enjoyable day.  So much was going on and so many people got involved - it was great to be there!  Everyone’s anti-rain dances had worked and we had beautiful walking weather – sunny, dry and wind- free, not too warm, not too cold.
There were 144 people who registered and walked.  Some walked 5 kilometers, others walked 10.  As usual, there were many nationalities.  Some participants paid the 5 euros fee to join in and others raised sponsorship.  The walk was through beautiful private vineyards not normally accessible to the public - and everyone got back safely to the starting point!  Lots of people spread the word to friends and neighbours and encouraged them to join in.  Not only did everyone who took part raise money, but they also raised awareness that people affected by cancer need not face things alone.  It was a great way to support the national Cancer Support France awareness week!
Back by popular demand, lunch was traditional British Fish & Chips (sausage or veggie spring roll also available and optional mushy peas), with a dessert of chocolate brownie, for which over 120 people paid and stayed.  With the generosity of Chris and Claire (www.ccfishandchips.com) and Alison (www.kenandalisonscatering.com), this also added money to what was raised on the day and was a delicious and appropriate re-fuelling for lots of hungry walkers.
For the second year in a row, we had access to the fantastic venue of the Domaine de la Clapiere, Montagnac,(www.laclapiere.com). This provided us with the land for two beautiful walks, a covered space with tables and chairs for registration and lunch, substantial parking space and a great opportunity to buy good wines. Knowing that, whatever the weather, there was cover and a ‘hub’ for the whole event was priceless for both organisers and participants.  Many thanks to Colin and Dom (www.languedoc-select.com) who loaned us wine glasses. With all the wherewithal provided, the space looked and felt great.
Les Sœurs Délicieuses added to the coffers with a percentage of proceeds from sales of their scones, jams, chutneys and other lovely foods and Hannah Waters boosted income again with English book sales.
There were lots of volunteers behind the event, who delivered a brilliant day, working gratis.  Their tasks included researching and guiding the walks, dealing with registration, giving out water, lugging tables, handing out lunches, setting up, cleaning up, taking and sorting bookings, negotiating with other participants and supporters as well as the other, and many, jobs involved.  Not only did they make the whole thing work and work well, they also supported each other, making a great team.
“But what about the money?” we hear you cry. Well, over 6000 euros was raised in just one day!  The money supports CSFL's direct work with individuals affected by cancer, the monthly (excl Jul, Aug & Dec) Drop in Days in the Herault, the advertising and publicity work to make sure people know about CSFL and what the association does, delivery of training for volunteers and any other costs that keep CSFL in a position to meet client needs.  This income, along with other fundraising during the year, will keep the books balanced and allow CSFL to keep providing the practical and emotional support that clients say they find invaluable.   Everyone who delivers these services does so without payment (though CSFL will cover expenses incurred).  CSFL has professional standards that are set out and used as the basis for all service delivery and training.  It means all the money goes to support the clients in ways which are direct and in which everyone can have confidence.
Save the dates for the annual Christmas Cracker Fair at Cassan (28 & 29Nov) and Hannah’s Monthly Clothes Sale (1st Monday of the month, 2pm-4pm 96 Ave de Beziers, 34480, Puissalicon, 09 81 22 68 19).  CSFL cannot exist and continue its work without your support.
At the News and Events section on the Home page of the website www.csf-languedoc.com you will see a lovely selection of photos taken on the day of the walk.
