Katharine C: April Cook&Eat, an Indonesian feast

Photo credits:  Denise and Peggy F

A group of us gathered at Denise's home to learn techniques of preparing vegetables and sauces for an Indonesian feast.  We were instructed by Denise's son Brice and his friend Brooke, who coached us through the morning-long preparation with some dazzling results, both in the presentation of the dishes and in their taste.

This is a summary of the meal - in 3 photos
Acar Campur Salad (cold marinated vegetables) with Kacang Saus (spicy peanut sauce)

Gado Gado (fresh vegetable plate) and Tofu Satay, accompanied by Tamarind, peanut and other sauces;

Dadar Gulung (pancake roll dessert)

Maggie: Moscow's Red Square in December 2016

Editor:  Maggie has a very large album of Moscow photos, from her trip taken in late December 2016.  There is not room on Scriveners to include them all, but if you would like to see her album of 65 photos (which she has winnowed down from 500 photos), do drop her a line.
Here is the text that she sent me:

Maggie writes:   There are photos of Red Square, of course, and photos of the lights and
ice-palaces and other ice decorations (clock).
There are photos of special Russian meals. We ate at the Chekov on Christmas
day, and I took photos of the food, the vodkas, and Serge and Emily at the
table in the "fancy" dining room.  (9772, 9773, 9774, 9780)
There are also a couple of photos taken in our hotel, the Kznetsky Inn
Hotel, which I highly recommend. (9751 and 9795)

There are quite a few photos taken in the very impressive metro stations.
Also a statue of Tchaikovsky, and two in the Sandouny baths, but not in the
wet part. (9857 and 9860)
Several photos to test one's Russian, including Rendez-vous shop.
Also Georgian wines, following our Christmas Eve meal at a Georgian
restaurant. (photo 9724)
Decorations in the department stores, particularly the Children's Department
Store, were fantastic.
The decorated Christmas trees (they call them New Year trees) were to be
auctioned off for charity after the holidays.
Also the nutcracker in the Christmas market on Red Square had a ball with a
slot for making charity donations.
The vegetable and mushroom soup in a loaf of bread, which can be eaten after
the soup, was delicious... as was all the food.  And the beer.  And the
vodka.

The photo of me in front of a shop window was taken after a Russian woman
stopped me and asked to take my photo because the antlers I was wearing
matched those in the shop window decorations.

And, of course, the real highlight, me ice-skating in Red Square, my
                            childhood dream come true.
